Body contouring at Bar Beauty Medical is a category, not a single device. From our CityPlace clinic in downtown Toronto, we run more than one platform for the body and choose the right one for your tissue, your goal, and how much downtime you can take. It is non-surgical, performed by trained medical staff under physician supervision, with no general anaesthetic and no time off work.

Our body work uses two complementary platforms. Venus Bliss handles fat reduction with its diode-laser applicators. InMode Body FX handles skin tightening and the look of cellulite. Together they address fat and skin in a single non-surgical plan. For current pricing, see our price list.
Does body contouring actually work?
Yes, within realistic limits. Device-based body contouring genuinely reduces stubborn fat pockets and tightens loose skin, and the results are supported by clinical data for the platforms we use. What it does not do is replace weight loss or surgery. It works best on a stable-weight body with specific areas that diet and exercise have not shifted, rather than as a way to lose a large amount of weight. We will be honest at consultation about what your starting point will and will not allow.
Venus Bliss, fat reduction (diode laser)
The diode laser applicators on Venus Bliss are the part that reduces fat. The applicators sit comfortably on the area for around 25 minutes and heat the deep fat layer so fat cells are permanently destroyed, after which the body clears them through the lymphatic system over the following 8 to 12 weeks.
- Permanent reduction of treated fat cells
- Stubborn pockets on the abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs, and bra line
- No needles, no anaesthetic, no downtime
Bliss is the second attachment on the same Venus Bliss platform, and it handles the contouring side.
- Defines and lifts the core, glutes, and arms
- Often paired with the diode laser on the same area for a complete reduce-and-sculpt result
- About 30 minutes per area, no downtime
InMode Body FX, skin tightening and cellulite
Body FX is the third tool in our body plan. It combines radiofrequency, deep heating, and a controlled vacuum in a single handpiece. The radiofrequency heats the deep dermis to remodel collagen and tighten loose, crepey skin, while the vacuum lifts and massages the tissue to soften cellulite texture. Where Venus Bliss reduces fat, Body FX firms the skin around it.
- Loose, crepey skin on the abdomen, flanks, and post-pregnancy belly
- Cellulite texture on the thighs and glutes
- Loose upper-arm and bra-line skin
- Inner-thigh skin laxity
Body contouring after weight loss or pregnancy
Two of the most common reasons people look into body contouring are loose skin after significant weight loss and a softer, looser tummy after pregnancy. For mild to moderate laxity, radiofrequency skin tightening with Body FX can firm the area without surgery. It is important to be realistic, though: large amounts of genuinely excess, hanging skin after major weight loss usually need a surgical procedure such as a tummy tuck, and a device cannot match that. We will tell you honestly which camp you fall into and refer you on if surgery is the better answer. After pregnancy, we ask you to wait until at least three months post-delivery and after weaning before starting.
What we treat
- Stubborn fat pockets (Venus Bliss diode laser)
- Loose, crepey skin and post-pregnancy laxity (Body FX)
- Cellulite texture on the thighs and glutes (Body FX)
- Bra-line bulge and back fat (all platforms)
Your treatment plan
A complete plan is typically 6 to 8 sessions over 8 to 12 weeks, alternating the Venus Bliss diode laser, Venus Bliss, and Body FX depending on the area and your goals. Each session runs 30 to 60 minutes, and you walk out and resume normal activities the same day. Results build progressively across the plan and continue improving for up to three months after the final session.
What body contouring does, and what it does not
Body contouring covers two goals: reducing fat and tightening skin. Different devices excel at different goals, and no single device does all three well, which is why a complete plan combines them over weeks. Set realistic timelines, since results compound between three and six months. Critically, body contouring is not weight loss. If your weight is not stable, the right first step is a medical or lifestyle approach, and we will tell you so honestly.
How we decide who gets what
Venus Bliss diode laser if
You have isolated stubborn fat and reasonably good skin tone.
Venus Bliss if
Body FX if
Your main concern is loose skin or cellulite texture.
A combined plan if
You have more than one of these concerns, which is true for most people.
A surgical referral if
Your goal exceeds what non-surgical treatment can deliver, for example a large amount of excess skin.
Red flags, when to walk out of a body contouring consultation
The Canadian medical aesthetics industry is only partly regulated. Use this checklist on every clinic, including ours.
- No medical intake. If nobody asks about your medications, autoimmune history, prior treatments, or pregnancy status, that is a sales call, not a consultation.
- Pressure to book today. A today-only price is a sales tactic, not medicine. A reputable clinic quotes you, sends you home with a written plan, and expects you to think it over.
- Vague provider credentials. Ask who is treating you and which physician supervises the clinic. If you cannot get straight answers, leave.
- Prices dramatically below market. A quote far below the going rate usually means grey-market product or an unqualified operator, neither of which is an acceptable trade-off.
- No emergency plan. Any clinic should be able to tell you plainly what they do if something goes wrong after hours. “Go to the ER” is not a plan.
- Before-and-after photos that all look identical. Real results vary. Identical lighting, angle, and expression on every result usually means the photos are staged.
Who should not have this treatment
- Anyone whose weight is not yet stable, where this is the wrong first step.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- An active skin infection in the treatment area.
- A pacemaker or metal implant in the treatment area.
- Anyone expecting a surgical-grade change from a non-surgical device.
Recovery and aftercare
Hydrate well after fat reduction, and use compression where we recommend it. Avoid alcohol for 48 hours, and you can usually return to the gym within 24 to 48 hours. Photograph the area weekly so you can track the change objectively, since memory is unreliable and day-three swelling is not the final result.
Pre-treatment preparation
What you do in the weeks before your sessions affects comfort and results. A few simple steps help most people.
- Hydration: aim for 2.5 to 3 litres of water daily in the days before, since well-hydrated tissue responds and recovers better.
- Reduce bruising risk: in the 72 hours before, skip alcohol, fish oil, high-dose vitamin E, ibuprofen, and aspirin, which thin the blood, unless your physician advises otherwise. Acetaminophen is fine if you need pain relief.
- Sleep and stress: a week of good sleep and lighter training intensity supports healing more than any product.
Paying for treatment in Ontario
Most cosmetic procedures are not covered by OHIP, and Bar Beauty Medical does not bill OHIP for elective aesthetics. There are still a few things worth knowing.
Health spending accounts (HSA)
Some employer HSAs reimburse services performed for a documented medical indication. We issue a detailed receipt with the provider’s regulatory number and the medical indication so your administrator has what they need. Purely cosmetic body contouring generally does not qualify.
Medical expense tax credit
The federal Medical Expense Tax Credit generally excludes purely cosmetic procedures performed after March 2010, but medically indicated work may qualify with a physician referral. Keep your receipts and consult your tax professional.
Affirm financing
For larger treatment plans, Affirm financing is available so you can split the cost into monthly payments. Checking your rate does not affect your treatment plan.
What we wish you knew before booking
- Instagram is not a treatment plan. The before-and-afters you screenshot are usually the best possible result for that person’s specific anatomy and lighting. They are inspiration, not a contract. Your honest baseline matters more.
- Photo documentation is non-negotiable. Without standardised before photos, neither you nor your provider can honestly evaluate the result later.
- Your medication list matters. Blood thinners, immunosuppressants, hormonal therapy, and a history of certain medications all change how we treat you. Bring a real list.
- One session is rarely the whole story. Non-surgical body contouring is a process, not a single moment. The people who do best understand the realistic arc.
Frequently asked questions
Does body contouring actually work?
Yes, for the right candidate. It reduces stubborn fat and tightens mild to moderate loose skin, with results supported by clinical data for the devices we use. It is not a substitute for weight loss or surgery.
How long do body contouring results last?
Fat cells that are destroyed do not come back, so that part is long-lasting as long as your weight stays stable, since remaining cells can still enlarge with weight gain. Skin-tightening results are maintained with periodic top-up sessions.
What are the cons of body contouring?
It takes a series of sessions and patience, results appear over weeks to months rather than instantly, it will not remove large amounts of excess skin, and it is not a weight-loss tool. Being clear-eyed about these limits is the best way to be happy with the result.
What is the best body contouring procedure?
There is no single best one, because it depends on your concern. Fat responds to the Venus Bliss diode laser, and loose skin or cellulite to Body FX. Most people do best with a combination, which we map at consultation.
How long does it take to show results?
Visible change at around 6 to 8 weeks, with final results at three to six months.
Is it permanent?
Treated fat cells are gone for good, though new weight gain can still deposit fat in the remaining cells.
Will it tighten my skin?
Body FX tightens skin; the Venus Bliss fat-reduction laser does not, which is why we often combine them.
How much does a complete plan cost?
It depends on the areas treated and the number of sessions. We publish current pricing on our price list, and your consultation is complimentary.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Affirm financing is available so you can split the cost into monthly payments, and checking your rate does not affect your plan.
Is it covered by insurance?
No, cosmetic body contouring is not covered by OHIP or private insurance.
Can I treat multiple areas at once?
Yes, and we stage the areas based on your tolerance and recovery.
Will it hurt?
Most of these treatments are around 2 to 5 out of 10, with the sensation usually described as warmth or pressure rather than pain.
Can men benefit from body contouring?
Yes. Men commonly treat the abdomen, flanks, and chest, and the same platforms apply.
How soon after pregnancy can I start?
At least three months after delivery and after you have finished breastfeeding.
