The right bridal skin prep timeline starts 12 weeks before the wedding, not 2. Skin needs time to respond to clinical treatments, and the last 2 weeks should be calm with no aggressive procedures. This is the timeline we use with our brides at Bar Beauty Medical in downtown Toronto.
Quick answer
Twelve weeks out, start a consistent at-home routine and book a deep treatment series. Eight weeks out, refine and address pigmentation. Four weeks out, do final touch-ups and lock in injectables if you use them. Two weeks out, stop everything aggressive. The morning of the wedding, hydrate and let your makeup artist work on calm, prepped skin.
Twelve weeks out: foundation
This is the start. You have time to layer in clinical treatments that compound.
Book the consultation. A 20 to 30 minute consultation with an RN or MD lets your skincare plan get personalized. They should ask about your skin type, current routine, medications, prior treatments, and what your dress looks like (white, ivory, blush, champagne) because the dress affects how skin tone reads on camera.
Lock in at-home routine. A retinoid (prescription or 0.5% to 1% over-the-counter), vitamin C serum in the morning, broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50 daily, and a gentle cleanser. If you have never used retinoid before, start at 0.25% and build up. Skin needs 6 to 12 weeks to adjust without irritation.
Begin treatment series. Three sessions of microneedling spaced 4 weeks apart, or three HydraFacials spaced 4 weeks apart, gives skin time to remodel collagen and even tone before the final month. Microneedling is the deeper bet. HydraFacial is the more polish-focused option.
Address acne if active. Twelve weeks is enough time for a prescription topical or a course of in-office facials to settle skin. Do not wait until 4 weeks out for acne intervention.
Eight weeks out: refine
Two of your three treatment sessions are behind you. Time to focus on specifics.
Hyperpigmentation and melasma. A chemical peel (glycolic, lactic, or mandelic acid) or one session of a low-energy laser like Aerolase Neo Elite can help even tone. Aerolase is gentle on all Fitzpatrick skin types including IV through VI, which matters for brides who do not tolerate aggressive light-based devices.
Texture refinement. If you have shallow scarring from teen acne, this is the window to consider Morpheus 8 RF microneedling. Results build over 3 to 6 months, so 8 weeks out is the latest most clinics recommend booking the first session.
Brow shaping. If you tint, lift, or laminate your brows, schedule the trial run for week 8. You want to know exactly how your brows behave 2 days post-treatment before committing on the wedding week.
Four weeks out: final touches
The window for one last serious treatment.
Last facial. Schedule a non-aggressive HydraFacial or hydration-focused facial 3 to 4 weeks out. Avoid anything that produces visible redness, peeling, or temporary breakouts.
Last neuromodulator dose. If Botox or Dysport is part of your plan, this is the latest you should be injecting. Four weeks gives time for full effect, settling, and a touch-up appointment at the 2-week follow-up if needed.
Last filler appointment. Hyaluronic acid filler reaches its final shape at about 2 to 4 weeks. If you are doing lip, cheek, or under-eye filler, this is your deadline. Anything closer to the wedding risks visible swelling.
Two weeks out: calm
Stop adding anything new. Maintain what is working.
No new product introductions. No new retinoid, no new exfoliant, no new sunscreen. Anything you have not used for 4+ weeks should be on pause.
Hydration emphasis. Hyaluronic acid serum morning and night, a richer night cream if you tolerate one, and an over-the-counter hydrating mask once or twice a week.
Sleep, water, alcohol. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep, 2 to 3 litres of water, and limit alcohol especially in the final 5 days. All three show on the skin.
Optional: lymphatic facial massage. A gentle non-stimulating facial massage 1 week out helps reduce puffiness and de-bloat. Skip anything with extractions or strong actives.
One week out: maintain
Wedding-day morning trial run. If your makeup artist offers a trial, do it 1 to 2 weeks before the wedding, not the morning of.
Last-minute corrections only. If a small breakout appears, see your aesthetician for a targeted extraction. Do not attempt at home.
Sunscreen vigilance. Even cloudy days. Sun damage acquired in the final week shows up in photos.
The week of the wedding
Skip. Active retinoid, AHAs/BHAs, harsh exfoliants, new products, intense workouts that flush the face, fish oil and high-dose vitamin E (both increase bruising risk).
Continue. Hydrating serums, gentle cleanser, SPF, hyaluronic acid masks, plenty of water.
Sleep on your back or on a silk pillowcase. Reduces sleep lines and creasing.
The morning of the wedding
Cleanse gently. Lukewarm water, gentle cleanser, pat dry.
Layer. Hyaluronic acid serum on damp skin, light moisturizer, SPF.
Hydrate from the inside. A large glass of water with electrolytes, especially if the wedding is outdoor or in summer.
Then hand it to your makeup artist. Clean, hydrated, calm skin gives the artist the canvas to do their best work.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do Botox the week of my wedding?
No. Botox needs 4 weeks for full effect and possible touch-ups. Last appointment should be 4 weeks out at minimum.
Can I get filler 2 weeks before my wedding?
Risky. Filler settles over 2 to 4 weeks and can swell for the first 7 to 14 days. Most reputable injectors will not do filler within 3 weeks of a wedding.
What if I break out the day before?
See an aesthetician for a clean extraction. Do not try to address it yourself. A licensed clinic can offer a cortisone injection for a deep cyst that flattens it within hours.
Do I need a different routine for a destination wedding in a hot climate?
Yes. Increase SPF, add a barrier cream against humidity, and pack mineral sunscreen for the day-of. Travel can disrupt sleep and hydration so plan an extra rest day before the wedding.
Can I do a chemical peel a week before?
No. Peels can produce delayed peeling or redness in the 5 to 10 day window. The last peel should be 4+ weeks out.
Should grooms also follow a skin-prep timeline?
Yes, especially if photographed in close-up. A simpler version: 8 weeks of consistent SPF, vitamin C, and one or two HydraFacials in the final month.
