Double Chin Treatment in Toronto: The Complete 2026 Encyclopedia
The submental fullness commonly called a “double chin” is one of the most frustrating cosmetic concerns: it persists despite weight loss, exercise, and skincare, because it is a structural problem more than a body-fat problem. Genetics, jaw structure, neck-muscle posture, and a small isolated fat pad behind the platysma all contribute. The good news: 2026 has the deepest treatment toolkit ever for this region — Kybella (deoxycholic acid injections), CoolSculpting (cryolipolysis), Morpheus 8 Body, BodyTite and Venus Bliss diode-laser body contouring, all without surgery. This 3,000-word guide walks you through identification, the four-tier treatment hierarchy, and which option fits your specific anatomy and budget.

Photo Identification: Which Type of Double Chin Do You Have?
Treating a double chin without diagnosing the type is the single most expensive mistake in this category. Kybella works on one type, fails on another. CoolSculpting works on a different one and fails on a fourth. Here is how we classify at consultation.
| Type | What it looks like | Pinch test | Best treatment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type A — Subcutaneous fat-pad (“classic”) | Visible fullness immediately under jawline; soft, pinchable | 1.5–3 cm of pinchable fat between fingers | Kybella (3–4 sessions) or CoolSculpting (1–2 sessions) |
| Type B — Deep (sub-platysmal) fat | Heavy lower face; minimal pinchable surface fat | Less than 1 cm pinchable; fullness deep to muscle | Surgical (liposuction or neck lift); Kybella and CoolSculpting won’t reach |
| Type C — Platysmal banding | Vertical “cords” appearing on contracting the neck | Visible bands on jaw clench | Platysma Botox (Nefertiti lift) — not a fat treatment |
| Type D — Skin laxity (“turkey neck”) | Loose, crepey skin without significant fat; sagging contour | Skin pinches and stays | Morpheus 8 Body, BodyTite/Venus Bliss, or surgical neck lift |
| Type E — Combination (most common past 45) | Mix of surface fat + skin laxity + sometimes platysmal banding | Mixed findings | Sequenced combination protocol |
Two conditions that mimic double chin
1. Submandibular gland prominence. Some patients have anatomically enlarged or low-positioned submandibular salivary glands that look like double-chin fat but are dense, immobile masses palpable just below the angle of the jaw. Not treatable with fat-targeting modalities; requires surgical referral.
2. Retracted chin / weak mandible. A short or set-back chin creates an obtuse cervicomental angle that looks like double chin even with no excess fat. The fix is chin filler or genioplasty — not fat removal. See chin filler Toronto and chin reshape Toronto.
Why YOU Have a Double Chin: The 5 Causes
| Cause | Mechanism | Reversible? |
|---|---|---|
| Genetic submental fat pocket | Isolated fat depot independent of body weight; visible at slim BMI | Highly treatable with Kybella or CoolSculpting |
| Weight gain — total body adiposity | Submentum receives proportional fat deposition | Partial — weight loss first, then targeted treatment for residual |
| Aging skin laxity | Loss of collagen and elastin; gravity drops tissue | Yes — Morpheus 8 Body, RF, or surgery |
| Retruded chin / weak mandible | Anatomic short mandible creates obtuse cervicomental angle | Yes — chin filler restores projection |
| Posture — “tech neck” | Chronic forward head posture shortens anterior neck tissue | Yes — postural correction reduces apparent fullness |
Your consultation maps which of these is dominant. A patient at goal weight with a genetic pocket is a Kybella candidate. A patient post-weight loss with surface skin laxity is a Morpheus 8 candidate. The same “double chin” photo can need entirely different treatments.
Treatment Hierarchy: First → Last
Step 1 — Foundation: weight stability, posture, skincare
If you are mid-weight-loss journey, wait. The submentum will improve with the rest of the body. Treatment delivered too early is wasted. Postural correction (chin tucks, lengthening the cervical spine) and consistent skincare reduce apparent fullness before any injectable or device.
Step 2 — Chin filler (if retruded chin contributing)
Often overlooked. A patient who looks like she has a double chin frequently has a short chin. 1–2 mL of high-G-prime filler at the chin point restores projection and the cervicomental angle improves dramatically — without touching the fat at all. See chin filler Toronto.
Step 3 — Kybella / Belkyra (deoxycholic acid injection)
The injectable answer for Type A subcutaneous submental fat. A series of 2–4 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart. Each session is a grid of 20–50 micro-injections that destroy fat cells, which the body clears over 6 weeks. Permanent fat reduction in treated area. Notable post-treatment swelling for 5–10 days. See Kybella Toronto.
Step 4 — CoolSculpting (cryolipolysis)
Non-invasive cooling of fat to apoptotic temperatures. The CoolMini applicator is purpose-built for submental fat. 1–2 sessions, results progressive over 2–3 months. Often combined with Kybella for larger volumes or when ice intolerance is an issue.
Step 5 — Morpheus 8 Body (skin tightening + sub-dermal heating)
When skin laxity is a meaningful contributor (Type D or E), Morpheus 8 Body uses bipolar radiofrequency through microneedles to contract skin and stimulate collagen in the submentum and along the jawline. 3 sessions, with progressive tightening over 3–6 months. We commonly stack this with Kybella or CoolSculpting.
Step 6 — Venus Bliss / BodyTite diode-laser body contouring
Venus Bliss uses a diode laser to apoptose fat cells with simultaneous RF tightening. BodyTite is a minimally invasive radiofrequency device. Excellent for combination cases where fat + skin laxity coexist. See Venus Bliss Toronto and Venus Bliss vs CoolSculpting vs BodyFX for the comparison.
Step 7 — Surgical referral (submental liposuction or neck lift)
For Type B deep sub-platysmal fat, severe Type D skin laxity, or anyone wanting one-and-done definitive result. We refer to trusted Toronto facial plastic surgeons. Costs $8,000–$15,000 for submental liposuction; $14,000–$25,000 for full neck lift.
Bar Beauty Toronto vs alternative double chin treatments

| CoolSculpting (CoolMini) | A (subcutaneous fat) | 1–2 | $1,200–$2,400 | Yes | 1–3 days numbness |
| Chin filler | Retruded chin contribution | 1 + 18mo refresh | $650–$1,450 | 12–24 mo | 2–5 days bruising |
| Morpheus 8 Body submentum | D, E (skin laxity) | 3 | $1,800–$2,700 | Multi-year improvement | 3–5 days redness |
| Venus Bliss submental | A + D (fat + laxity) | 4–6 | $1,600–$2,800 | Yes for fat | None |
| BodyTite submental | A + D (fat + laxity) | 1 | $3,500–$5,500 | Yes | 5–7 days swelling |
| Platysma Botox (Nefertiti lift) | C (banding) | 1 every 4–6mo | $450–$750 | 4–6 months | None |

Why Bar Beauty’s Combined Approach Is Different
The reason most double-chin patients are unhappy after their first treatment is that they were sold whichever modality the clinic had on hand — not the modality that matched their type. A clinic with only Kybella will Kybella a skin-laxity patient; a clinic with only CoolSculpting will freeze a patient who needs Morpheus 8. Both leave the patient dissatisfied.
Bar Beauty’s submentum strategy is platform-neutral: we have Kybella, Venus Bliss diode-laser, Morpheus 8 Body, and chin filler in-house, and we refer Coolsculpting and surgical when those are the right answer. The cost comparison table above is our actual practice’s recommendation framework. We pick what fits.
For the most common patient — Type E combination, mid-40s, weight-stable, Fitzpatrick III — our typical sequence is: chin filler (1 mL, $725) → 2 Kybella sessions ($1,400) → 2–3 Morpheus 8 Body sessions ($1,800). Total around $3,900 over 4 months, with the cervicomental angle improving from ~110° to ~90° (the youthful ideal).
Real Patient Case Journeys
Detailed: “C.” — 42, Type E combination submental concern
C. came having tried 6 months of intermittent fasting that dropped 15 lbs but left the submentum visually unchanged. Assessment: 2 cm pinchable subcutaneous fat, mild skin laxity, mild chin retrusion. Fitzpatrick III. Weight-stable for 4 months.
Month 1: 1 mL Volux at chin point + first Kybella session, 40 injections, 2 vials ($725 + $700 = $1,425). Significant swelling for 7 days.
Month 2: Kybella session #2, 1.5 vials ($525).
Month 3: Morpheus 8 Body submentum + jawline session #1 ($650).
Month 4: Morpheus 8 #2 ($650).
Month 5: Morpheus 8 #3 + reassessment ($650).
Total spend over 5 months: $3,900. Cervicomental angle measured 108° pre-treatment, 92° post. C. now does no maintenance for 18 months at which point the chin filler will refresh; the fat reduction is permanent.
Short case 1: “D.” — 31, Type A pure subcutaneous fat at slim BMI
Genetic submental pocket present from teens; BMI 22, no other concerns. Three Kybella sessions, 6 weeks apart ($2,100 total). Excellent result — permanent. Patient required no other intervention.
Short case 2: “F.” — 58, Type B + D (heavy)
Significant deep fat and skin laxity. Honest conversation: non-surgical would deliver 30–40% improvement at $4,000 cost. We referred to a Toronto facial plastic surgeon for submental liposuction + platysmaplasty ($11,500 surgical). Pre-op we delivered 2 Morpheus 8 sessions ($1,300) to optimise skin response. Recovery 2 weeks; result definitive.
Short case 3: “M.” — 38, Type C platysmal banding
Pre-arrived with $1,800 quote for Kybella from another clinic. Assessment: minimal subcutaneous fat, prominent platysmal cords on jaw clench. Treatment: 30 units platysma Botox (Nefertiti lift) $450. Refreshed every 5 months. Saved $1,350 on the inappropriate Kybella.

Hidden costs — the 4-pack vs single-session pricing trap
A specific warning for this category: many Toronto clinics quote Kybella as “from $400 per session.” That price typically covers a half-vial, which for the average submentum is inadequate. The patient pays “$400” three times and sees minimal change because the dose is too small. Bar Beauty quotes by vial, transparently, and a typical submentum needs 1–1.5 vials per session for 2–3 sessions. If your quote sounds suspiciously low, ask how many vials.
HSA, insurance, and tax
Cosmetic submentum treatment is not OHIP-covered and not HSA-eligible at most plans. If submentum is being treated as part of a documented snoring/OSA-related procedure (rare), partial coverage may apply — ask your surgeon if referred for surgery.
What Does NOT Work for Double Chin — Save Your Money
1. “Chin strap” devices and TikTok exercises
Mandibular straps marketed for double chin reduction have no published evidence of effect on subcutaneous fat. Chin and neck exercises slightly tone platysma but do nothing for fat. Useful as background — not as primary treatment.
2. “Fat-dissolving” injectables sold cheap at non-medical clinics
The legitimate fat-dissolving injectable is Kybella/Belkyra (deoxycholic acid), Health Canada approved, sold by Allergan. Unbranded “lipo-lab” or “lipo-dissolve” preparations from grey-market sources are unregulated and have caused tissue necrosis and abscess in published case reports. Only accept Health Canada approved Belkyra/Kybella.
3. Single Kybella session expectations
One Kybella session is rarely sufficient. The minimum effective protocol is 2 sessions, 6 weeks apart. Anyone telling you “one session is all you need” is misleading you.
4. CoolSculpting on skin-laxity-dominant patients
Freezing fat under loose skin can leave loose skin without fat — an appearance some patients find worse. Skin assessment before CoolSculpting is non-negotiable.
5. Aggressive submental filler “to fill the chin”
Some clinics over-fill the chin and lower jaw to “balance” a double chin. The result is heavier, not lighter. Filler belongs at chin point and along the mandibular border — not in the submentum.
6. “Plasma pen” for neck tightening
Unregulated, with reported scarring on the neck specifically. Avoid.
7. Surgery without trying conservative measures (for Type A patients)
If you have a slim BMI with a genetic submental pocket, you do not need surgery. Kybella or CoolSculpting is more than enough. Surgery is reserved for Type B deep fat or significant skin redundancy.
Lifelong Prevention & Maintenance
| Frequency | Action | Cost/yr |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | Postural awareness; chin-tuck exercises 3×/day | $0 |
| Daily | SPF + retinoid + vitamin C on neck (not just face) | $300–$500 |
| Weight stability | Avoid >5% body weight swings if possible | $0 |
| Annually | Bar Beauty 30-min follow-up + measurement of cervicomental angle | $0 |
| Every 18–24 mo | Chin filler refresh if originally placed | $725–$1,450 |
| Every 4–6 mo | Platysma Botox if banding present | $1,800–$2,250 |
Kybella and CoolSculpting fat reduction is permanent — treated fat cells are gone. However, the remaining fat cells can still enlarge with weight gain. Weight stability protects your investment.
2025 → 2026 Treatment Evolution
1. The GLP-1 effect. Post-Ozempic patients arriving with new skin laxity and “deflated” submentum is the single biggest 2025–26 change in this category. The protocol is different from classic submental treatment — less fat removal, more skin tightening (Morpheus 8 Body, Venus Bliss) and chin restoration.
2. Combination protocols (Kybella + RF) are now standard. Two years ago, Kybella alone was considered sufficient. Today, most experienced clinics layer Morpheus 8 or Venus Bliss with Kybella to prevent post-treatment skin laxity. We have run this combination protocol since 2024.
3. Venus Bliss has emerged as a strong CoolSculpting alternative. The combination of diode-laser fat apoptosis + simultaneous RF tightening addresses fat + skin in one device. Particularly useful for the submentum.
Double Chin FAQ — 16 Questions Toronto Patients Ask
What is the best double chin treatment in Toronto?
It depends entirely on type. For Type A (subcutaneous fat), Kybella or CoolSculpting. For Type B (deep fat), surgical liposuction. For Type D (skin laxity), Morpheus 8 Body or Venus Bliss. For most patients past 40, a combination of two or three modalities outperforms any single treatment.
How much does Kybella cost in Toronto?
Bar Beauty pricing: $700 per vial; most submental cases need 1–1.5 vials per session for 2–3 sessions. Total: $1,400–$2,800. The 3-session prepaid package runs $1,900–$2,100.
How many Kybella sessions will I need?
For a typical Type A submental fat pocket, 2–3 sessions, 6 weeks apart. Severe cases may need 4. We reassess at each visit and stop when the result is achieved.
Is Kybella painful?
Treatment itself is well tolerated with topical numbing — mild burning during injection. The 5–10 days of post-treatment swelling are the harder part; patients often want a weekend or work-from-home schedule for the first 5 days.
Is Kybella permanent?
Yes. Deoxycholic acid destroys treated fat cells, which the body clears over 6 weeks. New fat cells do not regenerate. However, remaining fat cells in the area can still enlarge with weight gain.
What is the difference between Kybella and Belkyra?
Same molecule (deoxycholic acid), same drug, marketed under different brand names in different markets. Belkyra is the Health Canada-approved brand name in Canada. Bar Beauty uses Belkyra.
How does CoolSculpting compare to Kybella for double chin?
Both are non-invasive, both target fat, both deliver permanent fat reduction. CoolSculpting (with the CoolMini applicator) is typically 1–2 sessions with 1–3 days of numbness; Kybella is 2–3 sessions with 5–10 days of swelling. CoolSculpting requires more pinchable fat to grip the applicator. We choose between them based on patient anatomy, downtime tolerance, and ice sensitivity.
What about Venus Bliss for submentum?
Venus Bliss combines diode-laser fat apoptosis with simultaneous RF skin tightening. Excellent for patients with combined fat + skin laxity (Type E). 4–6 session series.
Can I do Morpheus 8 on my submentum?
Yes — Morpheus 8 Body is FDA-cleared for submentum and jawline tightening. 3-session protocol delivers visible skin contraction over 3–6 months. Frequently combined with Kybella.
Will my double chin come back after treatment?
Treated fat cells do not regenerate. However, untreated fat cells in the area can enlarge with significant weight gain. Skin laxity that develops with age can also alter the appearance — addressed with maintenance Morpheus 8.
Why isn’t my double chin going away with weight loss?
Submental fat is often a genetic depot that does not respond proportionally to weight loss. Many of our patients arrive at goal weight with the same submentum they had at start — this is normal and treatable.
What if my “double chin” is actually a weak chin?
Common. We assess chin projection at consultation. If retrusion is contributing, chin filler ($650–$1,450) often dramatically improves the appearance without any fat reduction needed. The cervicomental angle test is the diagnostic.
Is submental liposuction worth it?
For Type B deep sub-platysmal fat and severe Type D skin laxity, yes. Definitive, one-and-done, lasting decades. For Type A subcutaneous fat at normal BMI, no — non-surgical does the job with less risk.
How long is the recovery from Kybella?
Swelling is significant for 5–7 days and gradually settles over 10–14 days. Most patients return to work day 2–3 wearing a scarf. Social downtime is 5–10 days.
Does Bar Beauty offer financing for submentum treatment?
Yes. We accept all major credit cards, and PayBright and similar financing partners are available for treatment plans above $2,000. Ask at consultation.
How do I book a double chin consultation at Bar Beauty?
