This is the deeper version of our extract and decongest, designed for skin that’s actively breaking out. Same extractions and steam, but we layer in medical-grade salicylic and azelaic acid, blue LED to kill acne bacteria, and an oil-control mask. Most clients book a series of 3 to 6 to clear a flare-up.
Ideal Treatment For
The Advanced Decongest Facial is a targeted and intensive treatment designed to thoroughly purify and clarify congested, oily, and blemish-prone skin. It goes beyond a standard cleansing facial by utilizing a powerful blend of professional-grade chemical exfoliants (such as Pyruvic Acid or Glycolic Acid) and a nano-constructed formula to penetrate deep into the pores. The process typically involves meticulous steam-assisted or vacuum extractions to safely remove blackheads, whiteheads, and impurities, followed by specialized treatments like High-Frequency to kill acne-causing bacteria or Blue LED Light Therapy to soothe inflammation and regulate sebum production. This facial rebalances the skin's oil levels, dramatically reduces congestion, and promotes a clearer, calmer, and more refined complexion
How It Works
null
The Advanced Decongest Facial in Toronto is our deepest non-laser acne-and-congestion clearing protocol. A 75-minute session combining medical-grade salicylic and azelaic acid layering, deep manual and steam-assisted extractions, high-frequency antibacterial treatment, blue LED light therapy, and an oil-control mask. At Bar Beauty in downtown Toronto this is the facial we recommend when skin is actively breaking out or chronically congested. 2026 pricing is $195 per session and $895 for a clearing series of 5 (one free).

What the Advanced Decongest Facial actually does
The Advanced Decongest is the next step up from our standard Extract and Decongest when skin is genuinely inflamed and acne-prone. We layer in pharmaceutical-grade exfoliants and an antibacterial component that the standard facial does not include. The full protocol:
- Consultation and skin analysis (10 minutes). Standardized photography, Visia imaging when relevant, acne grading, sensitivity check.
- Double cleanse (5 minutes). Oil-based first pass to dissolve sebum and makeup, then a salicylic gel cleanser.
- Pre-extraction acid layering (10 minutes). Pyruvic acid, salicylic acid, or azelaic acid depending on skin tolerance. Loosens comedones and reduces bacterial load before extractions begin.
- Steam-assisted extractions (15 to 25 minutes). Mechanical clearing of blackheads, whiteheads, closed comedones, and pustules. Sterile lancet used only when clinically indicated. Antibacterial wipe between zones.
- High-frequency treatment (5 minutes). Localized antibacterial argon-gas wand pass over treated zones to reduce post-extraction bacterial colonization.
- Blue LED light therapy (10 minutes). 415 nm blue light kills Cutibacterium acnes directly and reduces inflammation.
- Oil-control and anti-inflammatory mask (10 minutes). Clay-based or sulfur-based mask depending on skin type.
- SPF 50 finish and aftercare counseling.

How Advanced Decongest pricing compares in Toronto
Toronto 2026 deep-decongestion facial pricing ranges from $165 to $295. We sit at $195 because the protocol includes salicylic and azelaic layering, blue LED, and high-frequency at no extra charge — and the practitioner doing extractions is a trained medical aesthetician with at least 3 years of acne-skin experience.
Five real patients we treated in 2025 and 2026
Patient example 1: Hannah, 23, downtown Toronto — adult cystic flare during college finals
Hannah had a stress-induced cystic flare across the jaw and chin. We built a 4-week clearing protocol — 4 Advanced Decongest Facials at 7-day intervals ($780) with Aerolase add-on at sessions 2 and 4 (+$400). By session 4 active lesion count was down from 14 to 3. Total spend: $1,180. Maintained with a single Advanced Decongest every 4 weeks.
Patient example 2: Mateus, 28, Etobicoke — male client with persistent T-zone congestion
Mateus had years of recurring blackheads across the nose and chin. Skin was oily, never quite clear. Series of 5 Advanced Decongest ($895) over 5 months. Skin texture and pore appearance substantially improved by session 4. Total spend: $895. He now books quarterly singles.
Patient example 3: Priya, 31, Mississauga — postpartum acne resurgence
Priya had clear skin pre-pregnancy and developed adult acne 3 months postpartum. Series of 6 sessions ($1,095) spaced 3 weeks apart paired with topical azelaic acid. By session 6 her face was visibly clearer and inflammation was minimal. Total spend: $1,095.
Patient example 4: Liam, 19, North York — teen acne, parents booking
Liam had moderate inflammatory teen acne. Parents booked a series of 5 Advanced Decongest ($895) paired with a basic skincare regimen. Compliance was excellent. By session 5 his face was visibly clearer; we transitioned him to maintenance with a monthly single. Total spend: $895.
Patient example 5: Catherine, 44, Forest Hill — adult hormonal acne plus aging concerns
Catherine had hormonal jawline acne plus general signs of aging. Series of 5 Advanced Decongest with Aerolase laser add-on at every session ($895 + $1,000) over 5 months. By session 5 her acne was substantially clearer and skin tone had visibly evened. Total spend: $1,895.
Advanced Decongest vs other facial options — how we decide
When we choose Advanced Decongest
Patients with active inflammatory acne, recurring congestion, large pores, oily skin type, or post-acne scarring concerns. Best for Fitzpatrick II through V; safe for darker tones with appropriate technique.
When we choose the standard Extract and Decongest
For patients with mild congestion who do not need pharmaceutical exfoliants or LED. Cheaper, shorter session.
When we choose the Aerolase Custom Facial
For patients whose primary concern is pigment, redness, or skin quality rather than active acne. Combines laser with full facial.
When we add a chemical peel
For patients with significant post-acne pigment or textural concerns. The Noon 30 peel can be added to the same session for a 90-minute combination.
2025 to 2026 evolution — what changed in our protocol
1. Azelaic acid replaced glycolic in our pre-extraction layering for sensitive skin
Azelaic is gentler and addresses both acne and PIH simultaneously. Glycolic remains in protocol for non-sensitive skin.
2. Blue LED upgraded from add-on to standard
Was an upgrade in 2024. Standard in 2026 because the additive effect on acne bacterial load is clinically meaningful.
3. Series of 5 with one free replaced series of 6
Patients comply better with shorter series.
4. Aerolase add-on integration
About 30 percent of patients now add the Aerolase laser pass to their Advanced Decongest sessions for compound effect on inflammation and PIH.
5. Reduced cadence for maintenance
Maintenance now every 6 to 8 weeks for most patients after the clearing series, down from every 4 weeks in our 2024 protocol.
Red flags — when to walk out of an Advanced Decongest consultation
- The practitioner extracts aggressively without acid pre-treatment. Loose comedones extract cleanly; forced extractions on tight skin scar.
- No sterile lancet protocol when needed. Surgical-grade single-use lancets are mandatory for clinical extractions.
- “One facial will clear your acne” claims. Acne is a series treatment. Expect 4 to 6 sessions for clearing.
- Aggressive squeeze technique that bruises. Bruising means tissue trauma and PIH risk.
- No follow-up skincare guidance. Clearing facials work better with a home regimen.
- Refusal to defer extraction over actively inflamed cysts. Cystic lesions should be calmed first, extracted second.
- SPF protocol skipped at the end. Post-treatment skin is sensitive; SPF is mandatory.
Hidden costs most clinics will not list upfront
Consultation fees
Some clinics charge $50 to $100. We do not.
Skincare product upsells
Acne outcomes are dramatically better with a basic home regimen (gentle cleanser, azelaic or niacinamide serum, SPF 50). Expect $150 to $350 for a starter kit. We do not require purchase but improvement is faster with adherence.
Maintenance over 12 months
Initial series + 6 to 9 maintenance singles per year typically runs $1,800 to $2,800 in year one.
Add-on stacking
If you add Aerolase laser + chemical peel + extra LED to one session, the price climbs from $195 to $555. Discuss whether stacking is needed.
Topical prescription medications
Some patients with persistent acne need prescription tretinoin or oral antibiotics from a dermatologist. Not covered in our facial pricing.
Recovery — realistic day-by-day timeline
Day 0 (treatment day)
Treated areas may show mild redness for 2 to 4 hours, slight tenderness over deep extraction sites. No bruising in skilled hands. Apply SPF 50 every 2 hours outdoors.
Day 1
Redness mostly resolved. Skin looks notably cleaner. Possible mild dryness from acid layering; use a gentle hydrating moisturizer.
Days 2 to 5
Skin tone evening. Possible mild flaking from acid treatment, especially in chronic congestion areas.
Days 6 to 14
Best result visible. Pores look smaller, texture is smoother, no new cystic lesions in treated areas (compared to baseline).
Week 4
Time for the next session in a clearing series.
HSA, financing, and tax considerations in 2026
Health spending accounts
Advanced Decongest is not OHIP-covered. Some employer Group HSAs reimburse when treatment addresses diagnosed acne. Itemized receipts available.
Beautifi financing
Bar Beauty is a Beautifi provider. Series of 5 ($895) can be split into 6 or 12 monthly payments — roughly $80 per month at 12 months.
CRA medical expense tax credit
Treatments documented as therapeutic for diagnosed acne may qualify. Discuss with your accountant.
Combining Advanced Decongest with other treatments
With Aerolase Custom Facial
The Custom Facial bundles a less-intensive medical facial with a full laser pass. Patients with active acne typically alternate Advanced Decongest (extraction-focused) and Custom Facial (laser-focused) every 2 to 3 weeks during the clearing phase.
With Noon 30 peel
Same-day combination possible for non-sensitive skin. Or alternate weeks.
With Botox or injectables
Different sessions, different weeks. Avoid injectables in actively inflamed areas.
With prescription medications
Topical tretinoin or oral antibiotics from a dermatologist are compatible with our facial protocols.
What Advanced Decongest will not do
- Replace dermatology care for severe nodulocystic acne. Severe acne may need isotretinoin from a dermatologist.
- Eliminate ice pick or boxcar acne scars. Those need Morpheus 8, subcision, or fractional resurfacing.
- Reduce hormonal acne triggers. Lifestyle factors (sleep, stress, diet) and medical management of hormones matter.
- Substitute for SPF. Without daily SPF, PIH resolves slowly.
- Clear acne in one session. Expect 4 to 6 sessions for visible clearing.

Acne biology — why this facial works mechanistically
Acne is a multi-factor inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit. Four contributors stack together: excess sebum production, follicular hyperkeratinization (sticky skin cells plugging the follicle), Cutibacterium acnes bacterial colonization, and inflammatory cytokine release. The Advanced Decongest Facial intervenes at all four stages of that cascade. Acid layering loosens hyperkeratinized plugs. Manual extractions physically clear the impacted pore. High-frequency creates an antibacterial environment by generating ozone. Blue LED at 415 nm activates endogenous porphyrins in C. acnes bacteria, creating singlet oxygen that destroys the bacterium directly. The oil-control mask reduces sebum and inflammation. Together this targets every contributor short of hormonal regulation.
The case for a clearing series rather than single visits
The natural life cycle of an acne lesion is approximately 4 to 6 weeks from initial follicular plugging to resolution. A single facial clears existing lesions and prevents some new ones, but the wave of pre-existing comedones that were not yet visible at session one continues to surface for several weeks. This is why a clearing series spaced at 3 to 4 week intervals consistently outperforms occasional single facials. By session 4 to 5, the production rate of new lesions has dropped substantially because the cumulative effects on sebum, hyperkeratinization, and bacterial load have compounded.
What “clearing” actually means clinically
We define a successful clearing series as at least a 60 percent reduction in active inflammatory lesion count from baseline, plus a substantial reduction in comedone density (blackheads and whiteheads). Patients with severe acne or hormonal acne may not reach 60 percent reduction with facials alone and benefit from concurrent dermatology care including oral medication.
What maintenance looks like after clearing
Most patients move to single facials every 6 to 8 weeks after the initial clearing series, paired with a sustained home regimen of gentle cleanser, niacinamide or azelaic acid serum, and daily SPF 50. Patients who skip maintenance often regress to baseline acne within 3 to 4 months.
Lifestyle factors that affect facial outcomes
The Advanced Decongest Facial works best when paired with realistic lifestyle adjustments. The high-impact factors:
- Sleep. Sleeping fewer than 6 hours per night meaningfully increases inflammatory acne flares.
- Stress. Chronic cortisol elevation drives sebum production.
- Pillowcase hygiene. Change pillowcases every 3 to 4 days.
- Phone screen contact. Wipe your phone daily; phone-side cheek acne is a real pattern.
- Helmet, hat, or mask friction. Mechanical irritation causes acne mechanica in athletes and patients in head-protected occupations.
- Hormonal cycle. For patients with cyclical hormonal acne, scheduling a facial 7 to 10 days before expected flare timing can blunt the flare.
- Diet. High-glycemic and high-dairy intake correlates with acne severity in many patients. Trial elimination for 8 weeks is sometimes informative.
- Skincare layering. Heavy occlusive products on acne-prone skin trap bacteria. Lighter, non-comedogenic products work better.
