What Aerolase NeoSkin actually does
The Aerolase NeoElite is a Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser that delivers energy in a 650-microsecond pulse. That pulse duration is shorter than the thermal relaxation time of normal skin, which means heat is deposited only in the intended target — hemoglobin, melanin, water in the dermis, sebaceous gland — without burning surrounding tissue. The clinical effects compound:
- Acne reduction. The 1064 nm wavelength heats the sebaceous gland and reduces sebum production. It also has direct antimicrobial effect on Cutibacterium acnes. Active inflammatory lesions calm within 48 hours and the population of new lesions drops across a series.
- Pigment reduction. Melanin in superficial pigment (sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, melasma) absorbs the laser energy and is gradually cleared by the body. The 1064 nm wavelength is safer for darker skin than alternatives like Q-switched 532 nm or fractional CO2.
- Redness and vascular reduction. Hemoglobin absorbs 1064 nm strongly. Superficial telangiectasias, rosacea erythema, and post-acne erythema fade across a series.
- Collagen stimulation. The dermal heating triggers fibroblast activity. Over 4 to 6 sessions, patients see improvement in skin firmness, fine line softening, and pore appearance.
- Inflammation reduction. Reduces overall cutaneous inflammatory load — particularly useful in rosacea, perioral dermatitis, and active acne flares.
What a NeoSkin session looks like
Walk in. 5 minutes for cleansing and consent. 30 minutes laser pass (longer for face + neck + chest). 5 minutes for post-treatment SPF and skincare. Total appointment 40 to 60 minutes depending on area treated. No numbing required for most patients. Goggles are mandatory.

How NeoSkin pricing compares in Toronto
The Toronto 2026 market for Aerolase NeoSkin face sessions ranges from $375 to $595. We are mid-market because every session uses the genuine Aerolase NeoElite (not a generic 1064 nm device) and includes pre-treatment imaging plus post-treatment SPF.
Five real patients we treated in 2025 and 2026
Patient example 1: Mehnaz, 26, Markham — adult cystic acne and PIH on Fitzpatrick V skin
Mehnaz had been treating adult acne for years without resolving the dark spots left behind. We started a series of 6 NeoSkin Face sessions ($2,250) spaced 2 weeks apart, paired with azelaic acid topical and daily SPF. By session 4 her active acne count had dropped from approximately 18 lesions to 4. By session 6 her PIH had visibly faded. Total spend: $2,250.
Patient example 2: Heather, 44, Etobicoke — rosacea redness and visible cheek vessels
Heather had stage 2 rosacea — persistent erythema, flushing, and visible cheek vessels. We treated with a series of 5 NeoSkin Face ($1,795) at 2-week intervals. By session 3 her overall facial redness was visibly reduced; by session 5 the vessels had cleared by an estimated 65 percent. Total spend: $1,795. Maintenance every 12 weeks at $450.
Patient example 3: Linda, 52, North York — melasma across cheeks (Fitzpatrick IV)
Linda had hormone-related melasma that previous lasers had worsened. Aerolase 1064 nm is one of the few lasers safe for melasma. We treated with a series of 6 Face ($2,250) at 3-week intervals plus tranexamic acid topical and strict daily SPF. By session 6 the melasma was visibly lighter. Total spend: $2,250.
Patient example 4: Vanessa, 38, downtown — neck and chest sun damage
Vanessa had years of sun damage across the chest including poikiloderma and crepey texture. We treated with a series of 5 NeoSkin Neck + Chest ($2,475) at 3-week intervals. By session 5 her redness and pigment had visibly improved and skin quality looked firmer. Total spend: $2,475.
Patient example 5: David, 60, Forest Hill — hand rejuvenation
David wanted his hands to match his facial appearance after Botox and filler. We treated with a series of 4 NeoSkin Hands ($1,295) at 4-week intervals. Sun spots faded substantially and skin tone evened. Total spend: $1,295.
NeoSkin vs IPL vs fractional CO2 — how we decide
When we choose NeoSkin
First choice for anyone with darker skin (Fitzpatrick III through VI), active acne, rosacea, melasma, or anyone who needs zero downtime. Also our default for chest and neck where IPL and CO2 carry more risk.
When we choose Lumecca IPL
For very fair skin (Fitzpatrick I through II) with sun spots and broken capillaries as the main concern. IPL covers more area faster and is more economical when the indication fits.
When we choose fractional CO2 or erbium
For significant textural change, acne scars, or deep wrinkles. CO2 has substantial downtime (5 to 10 days) and is not safe for darker skin tones. Not currently offered at our clinic; we refer when appropriate.
When we add Morpheus 8 RF microneedling
When skin laxity and textural change need deeper remodeling than NeoSkin alone provides. Different sessions, different weeks.
2025 to 2026 evolution — what changed in our NeoSkin protocol
1. Series of 5 replaced series of 6
Pricing has been recalibrated so a series of 5 with one free works out equivalent to a series of 6 at per-session rates. Patients comply better with shorter series.
2. Fluence customization per zone
In 2024 we used one setting across the whole face. Since Q3 2025 we adjust fluence per zone — higher for inflamed acne areas, lower for the under-eye, intermediate for forehead and cheek.
3. Reduced cadence for maintenance
Maintenance cadence used to be every 6 weeks. By 2026 most patients comfortably stretch to 8 to 12 weeks for maintenance singles.
4. NeoSkin hands added to standard menu
The hand protocol was added in 2024 after demand from patients receiving facial treatments who wanted hand tone matching.
5. Combination with topical tranexamic acid for melasma
Adding daily oral or topical tranexamic acid to Aerolase melasma protocols meaningfully improves outcomes vs laser alone.
Red flags — when to walk out of a NeoSkin consultation
- The clinic claims “Aerolase” but uses a different 1064 nm device. The Aerolase NeoElite with its 650-microsecond pulse is unique. Ask to see the device.
- No Fitzpatrick assessment before treatment. Settings should vary based on skin type.
- The technician will not provide goggles. Eye protection is mandatory.
- “One session will do it” claims. NeoSkin is a series treatment. One session shows a glow; it does not deliver pigment or acne resolution.
- No SPF protocol after. Post-laser skin is photosensitive; SPF 50 is mandatory.
- Aggressive pre-pay for 10+ sessions before a trial. First-time patients should pay for one session and see their response.
- NeoSkin recommended for raised pigmented lesions. Those need dermatology assessment first.
Hidden costs most clinics will not list upfront

With Botox or filler
Same-day combination is standard. Inject first, laser second.
With Noon 30 peel
Alternate weeks for maximum tone correction. Or layer in the same session if skin tolerance is high.
With Morpheus 8
Different weeks. Morpheus 8 has 2 to 3 days of downtime; NeoSkin best done at least 2 to 3 weeks before or after.
What NeoSkin will not do
- Replace dermatology care for severe cystic acne. Severe acne may need isotretinoin from a dermatologist.
- Lift sagging skin. For tightening see Forma or Morpheus 8.
- Remove deep dermal pigment (Hori’s nevus, deep dermal melasma) in one session. Multiple sessions and topicals required.
- Substitute for SPF. Without daily SPF, pigment results regress.
- Treat raised pigmented lesions or moles. Those need dermatology assessment first.

Deeper dive: how the 1064 nm wavelength is uniquely suited to multi-indication treatment
The Aerolase NeoElite uses an Nd:YAG crystal pumped to emit at 1064 nm in the near-infrared range. Three properties combine to make this wavelength uniquely flexible. First, melanin absorbs 1064 nm weakly compared with melanin absorption at shorter wavelengths like 532 nm or IPL bands, which is precisely why 1064 nm is the safest laser for darker skin. Less melanin absorption in the surrounding skin means less heat deposited in non-target areas and less post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk. Second, water absorption at 1064 nm is moderate, allowing the laser to penetrate the dermis (where collagen lives) without vaporizing the epidermis. Third, hemoglobin absorbs 1064 nm strongly enough to clear superficial vascular targets like telangiectasias and post-inflammatory erythema but selectively enough not to bruise the entire treatment area.
The 650-microsecond pulse width is shorter than the thermal relaxation time of typical skin chromophores, which means heat is contained in the target rather than diffusing into surrounding tissue. This is the Aerolase patented mechanism and the reason the device differs meaningfully from generic Nd:YAG lasers that use millisecond pulses.
NeoSkin for specific indications: extended guidance
Active acne (papulopustular)
For active acne we typically run 5 to 6 weekly or biweekly sessions paired with topical treatment (azelaic acid, niacinamide). The laser energy heats the sebaceous gland, reduces sebum output, and has direct antimicrobial effect on the acne bacterium. Patients typically see active lesion count drop by 50 to 70 percent across the series.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
PIH after acne, after waxing, or after other inflammatory events responds well to 4 to 6 NeoSkin sessions at 3-week intervals paired with strict daily SPF 50, topical vitamin C, and either azelaic acid or low-strength hydroquinone short courses. Most patients see 60 to 80 percent reduction in PIH visibility across a series.
Melasma
Melasma is harder than PIH because it has a hormonal driver. We use lower fluence, longer interval (3 to 4 weeks between sessions), and combine with tranexamic acid (oral or topical), strict SPF, and avoidance of triggers (heat, UV, hormonal fluctuation when possible). Realistic outcome is 40 to 60 percent visible reduction with the understanding that melasma can return.
Rosacea
For rosacea we focus on the cheek and nasal vascular targets. The 1064 nm wavelength heats hemoglobin in superficial vessels, causing them to clear over weeks. A series of 5 sessions typically reduces overall erythema and visible vessel count by an estimated 50 to 70 percent.
Pore appearance and skin texture
For patients whose main concern is enlarged pores, dullness, or oily-skin texture, the dermal heating from NeoSkin gradually improves pore appearance and surface refinement over 4 to 6 sessions. This is a slower-developing outcome than the pigment or vascular indications.
Anti-aging maintenance
Patients who use NeoSkin as a quarterly maintenance treatment report sustained improvements in skin tone, fine line softening, and overall glow. We recommend single sessions every 8 to 12 weeks for anti-aging maintenance once baseline concerns are resolved.
