Microneedling: Exosomes vs PRP vs PDRN

May 4, 2026 2 min read By

Three serums, three mechanisms, three price points. Here's how to pick the one your skin actually needs.

What each one is

Exosomes — donor-derived signaling vesicles loaded with growth factors, peptides, and mRNA. The newest of the three. Most aggressive collagen response.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) — your own blood, centrifuged to isolate platelets and growth factors. Autologous — zero allergy risk. The original “Vampire Facial” serum.

PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide) — salmon DNA fragments. Strong anti-inflammatory effect. Excellent for sensitive skin or rosacea-prone patients.

What each one does best

Exosomes — fastest collagen response, best for serious scar work, most rapid visible results. Best fit: deep acne scars, mature skin needing visible rejuvenation in fewer sessions.

PRP — strong general rejuvenation, excellent healing acceleration, autologous (your own body). Best fit: patients wanting natural ingredients, mid-tier scar work, anti-aging without donor materials.

PDRN — anti-inflammatory powerhouse, soothes sensitive or reactive skin, great for redness and rosacea overlap. Best fit: rosacea-prone skin, sensitive Fitzpatrick I-III, post-laser healing acceleration.

Cost — direct comparison

PDRN typically lands between PRP and Exosomes in price. PRP is the lowest-cost add-on (no external biologic). Exosomes are the premium option — typically 1.5x to 2x the PRP price. Exact pricing varies — see our price list for current numbers.

Sessions and combinations

For acne scarring, we often start with Exosomes for the first 2 to 3 sessions to drive faster initial response, then maintain with PRP. For sensitive or rosacea patients, PDRN throughout. For rejuvenation in patients who want their own biologics only, PRP throughout.
