Lumecca IPL Treatment In a Nutshell
What is it?
With its unique technology Lumecca IPL treatment uses light wavelengths in order to destroy unwanted pigment cells correcting and reducing the appearance of skin discoloration and other skin imperfections.
Who is it for?
Anyone looking to:
- reduce the appearance of age spots and sun damage
- reduce the appearance of acne scarring
- reduce the appearance of skin discoloration caused by acne
- remove unwanted freckles or birthmarks
- reduce the appearance of red and brown spots and other skin imperfections
How It Works
When you think Lumecca IPL Treatment, think photo flash. IPL releases light of scattered wavelengths and penetrates down to the second layer of your skin. When this light hits pigment cells they absorb it and convert it into heat, ultimately destroying the unwanted pigment, freckle, birthmark, acne scar, or other unwanted discolored spot.
During your treatment your provider will ask you to wear special protective eyewear. During the procedure you may feel a mild snapping sensation but there is no need to apply a local anesthetic.
Are there any side effects?
Immediately after treatment you can expect to feel as though you have a mild sunburn in the treated area, which should resolve itself within a day or two. Otherwise, there is really very little social downtime. The treated pigmented spots may appear darker after treatment (this can easily be covered up with make-up), but this will flake off on average 7-14 days following your treatment.
You may also experience some redness in the area, or redness around the pigmentation. We recommend you do not expose the affected area to the sun at least 48 hours after treatment and that you generally avoid tanning the area or tanning sprays both before and after treatment. We will not perform this treatment on you if you have a sun tan as this can cause adverse pigment events.
Will I need more than one treatment?
We recommend on average 3 treatments for optimal results. That said, everyone is different, and may need more or fewer treatments than what is recommended. At your in-person complimentary consultation your expert medical provider will be able to assess your skin and tailor an individualized treatment plan to your specific skin goals and needs.
