The biggest mistake brides make is starting skincare 2 weeks before the wedding. By then there is no time for collagen to build, no time for laser to cycle, and no margin for unexpected reactions. Here is the timeline that actually works, the one we use with brides at Bar Beauty Medical in CityPlace, Toronto.
Why the timeline matters
Skin remodelling is biological, not cosmetic. Collagen production after a microneedling or laser stimulus takes 8 to 12 weeks to peak. Filler integrates and softens over 4 to 6 weeks. Neuromodulators like Botox reach peak effect at day 10 to 14. Pigment correction is a 12 to 16 week investment. A good wedding plan is reverse-engineered from these timelines, so each treatment peaks on or before the wedding date, with a final low-risk polish 5 to 7 days before, never 24 to 48 hours before, which is when bruising and swelling are most visible.
6 months out: foundation
- Consultation. Map out your skin goals with a Registered Nurse. Photos, an action plan, and a written quote.
- Start laser hair removal if you are planning a strapless or sleeveless dress. Laser hair removal needs 4 to 6 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart.
- First Morpheus 8 session if you are addressing texture, pores, or mild laxity. Morpheus 8 needs 2 to 3 sessions, 6 weeks apart.
- Start a real skincare routine. A vitamin C serum (such as SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic), a retinol started low, and SPF every morning, available from our shop.
4 months out: build glow
- Microneedling session 1 of 3. Microneedling builds collagen over 3 to 4 months, which is perfect timing.
- Continue laser hair removal, typically session 3.
- Address pigmentation. If you have melasma or sun spots, start Aerolase melasma sessions now.
- Schedule your first Botox if you have never had it, so you have two cycles before the wedding to learn how your face responds.
3 months out: first filler
- Lip filler, if you are interested. First time? Do it now so it can be dissolved and redone if you do not love it. Lip filler lasts 6 to 12 months.
- Cheek or tear-trough filler if needed. Allow 3 months minimum from the first session to the event so it integrates fully.
- Microneedling session 2.
- Continue laser hair removal, session 4 to 5.
2 months out: fine-tune
- Botox. If your first round was 3 months ago and you loved it, redo it now. Results peak about 2 weeks later.
- Microneedling session 3, the final collagen-building session.
- Custom facials every 2 to 3 weeks now to maintain glow.
1 month out: polish only
- No new injections. Anything new now risks bruising or asymmetry visible in photos.
- Final laser hair removal session if needed.
- Hydrabrasion Deluxe facial 10 to 14 days before the wedding for maximum glow without irritation.
- Drink water, sleep, reduce alcohol. Inflammation is your enemy now.
1 week out: last call
- 3 to 4 days before: an Aerolase NeoSkin facial for instant glow with no downtime.
- 2 days before: manicure and lash extensions if you are doing them.
- Day before: skin only. No facials, no peels, no new products.
Day of: just water
Trust the work you have done. Do not try anything new on the wedding day. A cool jade roller in the morning, plenty of water, and something protein-rich to eat.
Who is and is not a candidate
Good candidates
Brides and grooms with a confirmed wedding date 3 to 12 months away who are willing to commit to a multi-visit plan with a consistent at-home routine.
Borderline candidates we treat with caution
Patients 4 to 8 weeks out (limited options, so we focus on safe, reversible treatments) and patients planning destination weddings (we factor sun exposure into the timing).
Patients we will decline or refer
Anyone seeking first-time filler or laser inside 6 weeks of the wedding for a non-trivial change, and patients who cannot commit to daily mineral SPF leading up to the event. If we decline, we explain why and point you toward a more appropriate pathway. A clinic that treats everyone is not screening properly.
Aftercare and the countdown at a glance
| Timing | What happens |
|---|---|
| Day -180 | Baseline photography and skincare onboarding. |
| Day -120 | Aerolase or microneedling series begins. |
| Day -60 | Final filler appointment if planned. |
| Day -21 | Final Botox top-up so the result is settled by day -7. |
| Day -7 | Polish Hydrabrasion; lock in the product routine. |
| Day -1 | No facials, no new products; sleep, hydration, mineral SPF. |
If anything does not match this timeline, call us. Most aftercare deviations are minor and easily corrected if we hear about them within a day or two.
Red flags: when to walk out of a consult
Knowing when not to book is the fastest way to avoid a bad outcome. If any of these happen during your consultation, leave and find another clinic:
- First filler ever in the month before the wedding. First-time filler carries a real chance of asymmetry or unwanted contour that we adjust over 2 to 4 weeks. Do it 4 months out or more.
- Resurfacing laser in the 6 weeks before the wedding. Pigment risk and prolonged pinkness make this a poor choice in the final stretch for most patients.
- New product trial in the final 2 weeks. Reactions to new actives tend to spike at 4 to 14 days. Lock the routine 6 weeks out.
- Self-tanner the day before a peel or microneedling. Uneven results and sensitivity are common.
A clinic worth your trust will write down what they recommended, what they did not, and why, including the settings or product used, so you can compare quotes and escalate care if needed.
Paying for treatment
Health Spending Accounts (HSA)
If your employer offers an HSA, medically indicated treatments may be reimbursable while cosmetic-only treatments generally are not. We provide itemized receipts coded for submission and, on request, a brief letter your administrator can use to evaluate the claim.
OHIP
Cosmetic treatments are not covered by OHIP, and Bar Beauty Medical is a private clinic that does not bill OHIP. If you think your concern may be medically reimbursable, we will help you map a path through your family physician or a dermatology referral.
Affirm financing
For larger plans, Affirm lets you split the cost into monthly payments. You can review options at your consultation, and checking your rate does not affect your plan. Current pricing for every treatment is on our price list.
Frequently asked questions
When should I start planning?
Twelve months out is ideal, 6 months is comfortable, 3 months is workable, and 1 month is restricted to safe, reversible options.
Can I get filler before my wedding?
Yes, but your last filler appointment should be 4 to 6 weeks before, never the week of.
What is the Botox timeline?
Final touch-up Botox about 3 weeks pre-wedding so the result is settled by photo day.
Can I do a chemical peel the week before?
No. Schedule any medium-depth peel 4 weeks out or more; inside 2 weeks, only a light enzyme or Hydrabrasion.
What about lash and brow tinting?
Patch test about 1 month out, then do the final tint 3 to 5 days before.
Should I get a facial the day before?
No. Five to 7 days before is the sweet spot.
What if I break out the week of?
A cortisone injection from a provider is the safe option. Do not pick or extract it yourself.
Can I be on Accutane during my wedding?
If your dermatologist has cleared you, yes, but we avoid concurrent device or peel treatments.
Will my results last through the honeymoon?
Yes, with daily SPF and the maintenance routine we lock in about 6 weeks out.
How much does a full plan cost?
It depends on which treatments you include. We publish current per-treatment pricing on our price list and give you a written quote for your full plan at the consultation. There is no consultation fee.
Booking your consultation
A consultation at Bar Beauty Medical includes standardized photography, a written treatment plan, and an honest discussion of which options are appropriate for you, which are not, and why. There is no obligation to book treatment, and many patients take the plan home to decide later. If you are coming for a second opinion after treatment elsewhere, bring any prior chart notes, photos, and product details you have.
