The short answer. Profhilo is a Health Canada approved injectable skin booster, and unlike Rejuran it is legal here. We do not carry it. We use Teosyal Redensity 1 for the same job, and this page explains what Profhilo is, how the two compare honestly, and how to decide. If Profhilo is what you specifically want, we will tell you where that fits rather than talk you out of it.
We do not carry Profhilo. We use Teosyal Redensity 1 for the same job, and the reason neither of them behaves like a dermal filler comes down to one property: how much the hyaluronic acid has been cross-linked. That single dial decides whether an injection holds a shape or spreads through the tissue, and it is worth understanding before comparing any two products in this category.
- Not cross-linked at all. Profhilo is a very high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, roughly 64 mg in a 2 mL syringe, held stable by a thermal manufacturing process instead of chemical bonds. With nothing holding it in place it spreads through the tissue from where it was put, hydrating and bio-remodelling. It cannot build a cheek, sharpen a jawline or plump a lip, and anyone offering it for those is selling the wrong product.
- Lightly cross-linked. Teosyal Redensity 1, which is what we use, sits here, with a nutrient complex alongside the hyaluronic acid. It still spreads rather than holding a shape, but it takes micro-injections placed across an area rather than at fixed points, which lets us weight the treatment toward the part of the face you actually came in about, including the under-eye.
- Fully cross-linked. Conventional dermal filler. The chains are chemically bonded so the gel resists spreading, stays where it is placed and creates volume. A different problem and a different product.
- The quick way to sort yourself. If what bothers you looks worse when your skin is dry and better right after a good moisturiser, that is a quality problem and this category is aimed at it. If it is a hollow, a fold or an outline that a moisturiser does nothing for, nothing at the low cross-linking end is going to help.
- Licence status is a separate question from category. Profhilo and Redensity 1 both hold Health Canada approval. Rejuran, Juvelook, Lenisna and Chaeum hold no Canadian licence at all, so a clinic injecting those here is injecting an unauthorised product. The useful split is legal against not legal, rather than one brand against another.
Profhilo has a strong reputation for neck and hand skin and we would rather say so than talk you out of it. We chose Redensity 1 for the under-eye and for technique flexibility, not because Profhilo is a weak product. Our consultation is free and we will tell you if a booster is not the right answer for what is bothering you.
What Profhilo actually is
Profhilo is made by IBSA, an Italian pharmaceutical company, and it is hyaluronic acid used in an unusual way. Conventional filler is cross-linked, meaning the HA chains are chemically bonded so the gel holds a shape and creates volume. Profhilo is not cross-linked. It is a very high concentration of pure HA, roughly 64 mg in a 2 mL syringe, made stable by a thermal manufacturing process rather than chemical cross-linking.
Because it is not cross-linked, it does not sit where you put it and it does not build structure. It spreads through the tissue and acts as a hydrating and bio-stimulating agent, drawing water into the skin and prompting the skin to improve its own quality over the following weeks. The category name for this is a skin booster, or bio-remodelling.
The five-point technique
Profhilo is injected at five specific points per side of the face, called BAP, or Bio Aesthetic Points. Those points were chosen because they are safe, they hold the product, and the spread from them covers the face evenly. The standard protocol is two sessions four weeks apart, then maintenance every six months.
What Profhilo does and does not do
It improves skin quality: hydration, elasticity, fine crepey texture, and the general look of skin that has thinned. It is best known for the lower face, neck and hands, where skin laxity shows as texture rather than volume loss.
It does not fill. It will not build a cheek, sharpen a jawline or plump a lip, and if someone offers it for those things they are selling you the wrong product. It also will not lift meaningfully. People who arrive expecting a facelift result from a hydration product leave disappointed, which is a marketing problem rather than a product problem.
Profhilo vs Redensity 1: the honest comparison
We use Teosyal Redensity 1 for skin quality work, so treat this comparison as coming from someone with a preference, and check the claims.
| Profhilo | Teosyal Redensity 1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Made by | IBSA, Italy | Teoxane, Switzerland |
| Health Canada | Approved | Approved |
| What is in it | Pure HA, about 64 mg per 2 mL, not cross-linked | Lightly cross-linked HA plus 14 amino acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants |
| Main mechanism | Hydration and bio-remodelling from very high HA concentration | Hydration plus a nutrient complex intended to support the skin environment |
| Injection technique | Five fixed BAP points per side | Micro-injections across the treatment area, more adaptable |
| Typical course | 2 sessions, 4 weeks apart, maintenance at 6 months | 3 sessions, about 3 weeks apart, maintenance at 6 to 12 months |
| Best known for | Lower face, neck, hands | Face, under-eye area, neck, hands |
| Under-eye use | Not its usual indication | Commonly used there, and one reason we chose it |
Why we went with Redensity 1
Two reasons, and neither makes Profhilo a bad product. First, the under-eye. A large share of our skin-quality requests are about the tear trough area looking crepey and tired, and Redensity 1 is routinely used there while Profhilo is not really a tear-trough product. Second, technique flexibility. The five-point protocol is elegant and reproducible, but micro-injection across an area lets us weight treatment toward the part of the face the patient actually cares about.
If your concern is specifically neck laxity or crepey texture on the hands, Profhilo has a strong reputation in exactly those areas, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise.
Profhilo, Rejuran and skin boosters: what is legal in Canada
This category confuses people because three different things get called skin boosters.
Profhilo is HA-based, Health Canada approved, and legal here. Redensity 1 is HA plus a nutrient complex, Health Canada approved, and what we use. Rejuran is PDRN, salmon DNA fragments, and it is not licensed in Canada at all, along with Juvelook, Lenisna and Chaeum. Any clinic injecting those here is injecting an unauthorized product.
So if you are comparing options, the useful split is not Profhilo versus Rejuran, it is legal versus not. Profhilo and Redensity 1 both clear that bar. If you want the PDRN mechanism specifically, the legal routes are topical delivery through microneedling with PDRN or ultrasound delivery on the Préime DermaFacial.
Is a skin booster even the right treatment for you?
Skin boosters are for quality, not shape. A quick way to sort yourself: if what bothers you looks worse when your skin is dry and better right after a good moisturiser, a booster is aimed at your problem. If what bothers you is a hollow, a fold or a sagging outline that a moisturiser does nothing for, you want filler, an energy device or a lift, and a booster will disappoint you.
For skin quality we may also suggest microneedling, the Préime DermaFacial, or Sculptra where the issue is genuine collagen loss over time rather than hydration. We will tell you which at consultation, and the consultation is free.
Common questions
Is Profhilo approved in Canada?
Yes. Profhilo holds Health Canada approval, which distinguishes it from Rejuran and the other Korean PDRN injectables, which hold no Canadian licence at all.
Do you offer Profhilo at Bar Beauty Medical?
No. We use Teosyal Redensity 1 for skin-quality injectable work, mainly because it is well suited to the under-eye area and allows more flexible injection technique. Both products are legal and both are legitimate.
What is the difference between Profhilo and filler?
Filler is cross-linked so it holds a shape and creates volume. Profhilo is not cross-linked, so it spreads and hydrates instead of building structure. Different products for different problems.
What is the difference between Profhilo and Rejuran?
Different molecules and, more importantly in Canada, different legal status. Profhilo is hyaluronic acid and is Health Canada approved. Rejuran is PDRN from salmon DNA and has no Canadian licence.
How many Profhilo sessions do I need?
The standard protocol is two sessions four weeks apart, then maintenance roughly every six months.
Does Profhilo hurt?
It is five injection points per side, so it is quick. Small bumps at the injection points are expected and typically settle within about 24 hours.
Can Profhilo be used under the eyes?
It is not its usual indication. For crepey texture in the tear trough area, Redensity 1 is the more commonly used product and it is what we would offer.
What is the closest alternative to Profhilo in Toronto?
Teosyal Redensity 1 for an injectable skin booster, which we offer. For non-injectable skin quality, microneedling or the Préime DermaFacial.
Is Profhilo better than Redensity 1?
Neither is universally better. Profhilo has a strong reputation for neck and hands. Redensity 1 is more adaptable in technique and is used under the eyes. We chose Redensity 1 for our patient mix and are happy to explain that choice in person.
How much does a skin booster cost in Toronto?
Our Redensity 1 pricing is published on our price list, like everything else we charge. We do not quote Profhilo pricing because we do not sell it.
